I read half of book 4. My Russian isn't good enough to notice mistakes plus I thought it was really easy to follow.
So they books aren't as poorly translated as reviews seem to make them sound?
Whenever I ask questions here about the book people say the wording sounds funny.
I think the translation is pretty bad but I am not skilled enough to know for sure. For me it was still fun to read and I picked up alot of vocab. But I switched to the Marinina book I am reading now just because at least it was written originally in Russian.
Hmm... I'd like to read a book which I can get in English too. The reason I was looking at Harry Potter, was because I could follow along and I would have somewhere to turn if I got stuck. What's this Marinina book you speak of? Is it in English too? How hard is it?
Thanks
If you want to read a painstakingly accurately translated book along with the English get a Russian Bible.Quote:

This books are both in Russian and in English.
IMHO, any HP book is worth getting from a learner's point of view. The first two-three books are pretty easy to read and would be very useful for learners at an intermidiate level. The rest of the HP books - that is, 3rd-6th, are, imo, a lot more difficult to read. I have read the first five books in Russian and have enyojed them all. Especially the 5th one since it's not as childish as the rest. I have read it in English as well. I haven't yet read the 6th HP book but hopefully I will manage to get it in English.Quote:

I recommend you to read any HP book that is translated into English (if it is your first language) if you like HP. I would say that Dan Brown's books are translated into Russian much worse that the HP series.
I'm reading Stylist by Alexandra Marinina.Quote:

It is really hard, H.P. is a much better level for me...I should probably read the rest of that instead but I just like having an mp3 to go with the book.
J.K.Rowling is hardly a brilliant writer in English. Her style is quite basic.
It's very "Harry entered the dark, cold room and saw a big dusty book on an old wooden table."
It's like how children write, sticking two adjectives before each noun.
I have Гарри Поттер и узник Азкабана.
It's quite challenging for me. Not that hard. Need a dictionary.
I didn't need a dictionary while reading HP5 in English. Like you said, it's pretty easy to read but there are still some things that might prove interesting to learners. If you want complex sentences etc. you should then read Tolkien. The number of adjectives in his books is amazing! You will hardly ever come across them in other books :?
The last book I read in English was "Digital Fortress" by Dan Brown. I tremendously enjoyed reading this book. It's of great value to a learner of English. You could read Dostoevsky as well if you want 'tough' Russian.
I'm going to read Digital Fortress too.
BTW, my "Digital Fortress" is kinda unique because I bought it at Toronto Pearson International Airport  It's priceless!
I'm lucky to have Da Vinci Code in txt and in mp3, so I'm going to read it, though I've read it already in Russian.
P.S. Does anybody have Akunin's "Азазель" in English? I can provide you with links on txt and audio of this book.
I'd rather you gave me the link where I can download the audio version of "The Da Vanci Code".
На русском или на английском? Если на англ., тоQuote:

CAN. $10.99
It's more expensive in Russia than in North America, so I think it would be a good idea to fly to Toronto (or any other North-American city) to get the book. You can save about $4!
So cheap! I'll certainly take your advice.
Extremely cheap. You'll only have to pay for the return ticket Moscow-Toronto-Moscow (or maybe via Frankfurt).
Oh, I didn't think about it.
I've read Da Vince Code and it seems to me that I'm not going to read another Den Brown's book. It was so boring to read it especially the end of this book, although I must admit it was good English practice.
I like Dan Brown. The endings of Brown's books are always very exciting. Sometimes, far-fetched, though.
In my opinion, Dan Brown sucks. I started to read his "angels and demons", got insulted and threw it away. It is way too far-fetched, Star Trek is more down to Earth than he is... well, just my opinion. :D
It's not compulsory reading, so everyone can decide for themsleves whether his books are worth reading. I haven't read Star Trek yet.
 Do a google search on Star Trek :)
Well, I flipped through Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons and I didn't like them besides they looked too complicated to me. Digital Fortress looks more interesting and easy to read.
Does anybody think "Da Vinci Code" is scandalous as annotation says?
I don't think so. The Da Vinci Code is not scandlaous in any way simply because there are tons of other people who know all these things that Brown writes about in his books. What's more, Dan Brown's books are not scientific or something. As far as I know, he doesn't feel like obtruding his opinion upon others. He just wants to let people know that what they've been told about religion since their cradle days probably isn't true.
I have the same opinion, but I thought may be catholics take this things more seriously.. Is that info about people's indignation exaggerated?Quote:

А что, похоже, что я серьезно это воспринимаю? :lol:Quote:

З.Ы. Наверное, мой ломаный английский ввел тебя в заблуждение.
Я понял, что не ты это всерьёз воспринимаешь. Кто как хочет, тот пускай так и воспринимает. Можно в конечном счёте прочитать "Цифровую Крепость", где нет, наверное, ни слова про религию и остаться довольным Брауном.
Does anyone know if the Star Trek books, based on the televsion series, have been translated into Russian?
I saw them in a book store some time ago. That means that they've been translated into Russian.
