Yes, To escape from the oppressive tax burden, as high as 2.5%, the
colonists revolted in 1776.
Now we have tax brackets up into the 60% s or something!.....hmm...I'm lighting my fireworks anyway........!.
WooHoo! I'm going to float down the river in a rubber raft full of beer!
Uhm, sorry Kwatts. I dont think that anybody lights fireworks to celebrate freedom or independance. Most people light fireworks just to blow sh*t up.
Agreed.
Ah! Gidday there Shirley!
4th of July? Boston Tea Party, or I'm wrong?
The Boston Tea Party was in 1773. It was one of the events that led up to the Declaration of Independance in 1776, however it was a number of years before the colonists, mostly British, actually won their independance from Britain. It is said that the colonists actually cosidered it an English civil war and not an American revolution.
Pretty amazing really. After it was all over they even added the First Amendment for freedom of speech and the Second Amendment for the right to keep and carry weapons to ensure they would not lose the First Amendment. Early writings indicate that the colonists were aware that future generations may need to one day repeat their actions, in order to subvert a future tyrannical government. You will find that the founding of America was quite unique when you look into it.
Here is a site on the Tea Party.

And they've been revolting ever since. :DQuote:

No fireworks for me. I'll be on the plane to Moscow.
I should be at a party right now, but I didn't feel like it. I went on a two-day drinking bender from Thursday evening to Saturday morning, began recovery yesterday, then my air conditioning went out so it was literally almost 90F (30C) inside my bedroom. Needless to say, I don't feel like partying today.
Happy birthday, America, you used to be great! *waves flags and sparklers around*
Me and my friends are going to the movie theatre parking lot and having a Badmitten tournament. BADMITTEN BEGINS! That's the third though, oh well. I'm avoiding parties, I miss my wallet.
I know what badminton is but what is badmitten? Is it a different game or just an American dyslexic version of pronoucing the word?
We actually celebrate our separation from England???..
I think that it would be more fun to make the larger celebration finding a ferkin cool big arse piece of property to play on. (America).
:o Whatever. Go with the flow..
I have just finished watching commercial television and according to Samuel Adams Brewing Company the Founding Fathers could be found hanging around taverns drinking full bodied beer and planning revolution.
So I can't spell badminton.
I don't know about your spelling but I got 5,240 hits for badmitten on Google.
Happy 4th! :D I'm off to Russia and no computer connection  . When we get a phone line in our new flat I'll be back  .
