Dance in poor high schools in US - it's what they live for

In a number of threads I've answered questions about what school is like here in the U.S. and talked very openly about the fact some of the schools here are very poor yet in a very rich county, and for the fourth year in a row... Maryland was ranked the number one school system in the country.

So, why would any parent send their child to such a school when we they a choice of five free schools (you are allowed to choose from one of five high schools), plus a choice of free magnet programs they could applied to, or send them to one of a gazillion private schools (if they can afford it)?

It is plan and simple, it is the dance program at this particular school.

Here is one from their winter dance concert that is about the 9/11 attacks. I must say... when I saw this in person, it was very emotional.

I only speak two languages, English and bad English.

This one, Fading Bonds, was actually choreographed by one of the students, a senior (12th grader). Here is what he said about the piece:
This piece was set to express My feelings on leaving Home to go to college. Its called fading bonds because as I'm getting closer to leaving, i feel like when I'm gone, i won't have the foundation and base and support system as i do now here
