Who has been there (Crimea)? Where have you been? Anyone here from Sevastopol?? Anyone have a tale to tell? :?:
I am curious why did nobody answer this post!
Well I was there - I spent there almost every August in period 1993-2003
I spent them in Koktebel but traveled alot along the coastline from Yalta and Alupka to Kerch and deeper in the peninsula. There are a lot of places which keep remins of various cultures - since Stone Age caves and dolmens to Skyphian and Greek time through the Hellenistic then Roman then Byzantian periods and time of Mohammedan reign. There are some medieval castles buit by Italians.
If anyone of you were in Greece - then know that Crimea looks very similar, but everything is smaller. Plus you should know about dirt and other sh't almost everywhere you go. Black Sea isn't too clear and after the high content of gases its life is less various than you can see in Mediterranean or Red sea. But you can easily encounter the dolphins.
And talking about Koktebel,it's a nice place - a bit overfilled and dirty after thousands of tourists, but still a cute town. It contents mostly of one-two storey houses and has lots of green.
It is situated right next the foot of the volcano sleeping since the last eruption in Ura. There is the whole moutain range called Karadag. The volcano makes incrediable scenery and you can find jemstones right in the sea.
Koktebel was famous in Soviets and then in Russia as Mecca of writers and poets - the famous Russian poet Max Voloshin lived there and his old house is the navel stone of the town.
Last years - because of extensive building of houses and clubs (made ugly) the town look worse then ever. But you still can find there the wild places filled of natural beauty!
In general Crimea remins a nice place for your eyes, lungs and feet. The low prices will astonish you as well as the wildness of some of locals. Without doubt, it's different place to see!
Interesting. Thanks for posting -- you made the 1 year anniversery!
I am hoping to go this summer.
You might hope, but I am definitely going 8)
