Pronunciation of the ending "-es" in "likes"

My son claims his teacher said he should not read the ending "-es" in the word "likes" (third-person verb form for like).

I never heard about this exception.

He misunderstood, I suppose. You just don't pronounce the -e-, but /ks/.

i got it to open and the speaker pronounces likes correctly. It is the same for the words: bikes, hikes and yikes. Click in the words to listen to them being pronounced.
